2022 and where Calligo is going

Our stated objective is simple: to be the world leader in data services.

This is not easy. To be a world leader in anything requires notoriety, reliability, performance and ultimately, dominance.

But we have a plan. As we close out 2021, there are certain things to look out for Calligo laying the groundwork for in 2022 …

More acquisitions

To date, we have completed 10 acquisitions across 7 countries. Our latest was Decisive Data earlier this year – our first data insights provider.

We added remarkable skills in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science and Data Visualization, not to mention strong partner collaborations with the likes of Snowflake,Tableau, Fivetran and Matillion, that we have already deepened in the months since. We also inherited household brand data services clients – relationships that have without exception expanded, often into new service areas.

We intend to continue in this vein in 2022, seeking out new data services acquisition targets in the US and the UK that will add talent, skills, capabilities, presence, capacity, clients, and most importantly, ideas.

Deepening of our pan-Atlantic capabilities and presence

To ensure we are considered a world leader, we intend to strengthen our data services presence on both sides of the Atlantic.

Of course, this is strongly linked to our intention to complete more acquisitions, but it is also a sign of our intent to grow organically in both regions too. Recruitment, customer acquisition, delivery, partnerships – we intend to grow in every meaningful way in both North America and the UK, taking full advantage of timezones, talent pools and each region’s natural aspiration to draw every competitive advantage from their data.

Spearhead the data services industry

Just as we have for the previous service industries we have evolved in and outgrown before, we intend to become the most renowned, authoritative and influential voice within data services – the experts to whom the market looks for best practice and insight.

We have an advantage over others here. We have a longer heritage in data services than most. We have been equipping enterprises and organizations with the tools and capabilities they have needed to make best, safest use of their data for years.

Even before the arrival of GDPR, we have been guiding clients in their respectful, adherent and ethical use of personal data. We also pre-empted the market’s heightened sensitivity over where their data was physically located, and addressed those concerns by building a high-performance data platform that guaranteed data residency, long before any other cloud service provider had even realised its importance, let alone could deliver on it. And we were first in the world to launch a managed machine learning service that made data science reliably accessible to the mid-tier and enterprises.

And so we will use this heritage alongside our creativity to educate, challenge and even inspire data leaders within ambitious organizations, showing them why and how to turn their data from merely having potential to instead being demonstrably the most valuable asset they have ever possessed.

2022 is destined to be another transformative year for Calligo. We aim to continue our surge into the data services space, bringing new capabilities and perspectives to the market alongside remarkable experience and skills, laying the foundations for our ultimate goal of being the natural world leader. And we have every intention of starting immediately – watch this space.

UPDATE 7: The Data Privacy Periodic Table

The Data Privacy Periodic Table – our most significant update yet

Since our last update in January, there has been an unprecedented amount of activity in the data privacy world. And yes, we probably do say that every time!

New laws have passed in Virginia and Colorado. The UK’s post-Brexit EU adequacy was confirmed. Plus of course, the EU’s significant changes to Standard Contractual Clauses and the reawakening of the debates over Identity Verification, especially in the context of social media.

These industry landmarks and others, plus the way that data privacy has become – quite rightly – a fundamental part of topical conversations surrounding vaccinations and identity, all combine to require us to make the most substantial changes to the Periodic Table of Data Privacy yet.

Calligo acquires US-based Decisive Data

Calligo’s tenth acquisition is its first in the US and rapidly expands its data science and data insights capabilities.

Today, Calligo announces the acquisition of Decisive Data, a pioneer in data analytics, data science and visualization. This is a significant acquisition for Calligo as it not only increases the resources and capabilities of our Data Insights team, but it also creates the most capable, accessible and compliant data insights service for modern businesses.Who is Decisive Data?Decisive Data was established in 2008 in Redmond, Washington, and now helps some of the largest global brands in technology, retail, telecoms, healthcare and other verticals to use deep data insights to make critical decisions and realize better outcomes in efficiency, growth and profitability.

What does the combination of Calligo and Decisive Data mean?

Firstly, combining Decisive Data’s longstanding track record in data science with our own accelerates the development and broadens the skillsets of our established Data Insights Services team. But what makes this offering special in the market is the combination of the two businesses’ complementary heritages: data science and data safety. Customers will receive not only powerful insights from which to make commercially-impactful decisions, but those insights will now come with the crucial reassurance that the data they are based on is secure, observes data privacy laws and is treated according to any industry governance requirements. All this combined makes Calligo the natural choice for organizations of all sizes seeking innovative and strategic understanding of their data.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Decisive Data team members, customers and partners to Calligo, and am extremely excited about the capabilities being added to the Calligo portfolio. Businesses today are under tremendous pressure to maximize their capabilities and efficiencies as budgets tighten and markets become tougher. Data and its intelligent exploitation is the well-known solution, but only if done so responsibly, safely and compliantly. With today’s addition of Decisive Data’s talented team members and its technology to Calligo, we will accelerate businesses’ ability to cost-effectively ramp up their data insight efforts – all while ensuring that their data remains secure, private and observes all applicable data regulations.” Julian Box, Founder and CEO of Calligo

“We are thrilled to be joining a like-minded company that has already established itself as a global voice for the centrality of data privacy and data governance in business. As the use of data becomes more complex, especially in a fragmented regulatory environment, data-first thinking must sit at the foundation of every business decision. Julian and his team totally understand this, and I cannot wait to see what’s next. The incorporation of Decisive Data into Calligo is a win for both our companies and a win for all of our customers.” Alissa Seiple, CEO of Decisive Data

How does Data Insights fit alongside Calligo’s other services?

Calligo’s longstanding mission has always been to deliver a unique portfolio of services that supports a business’ more productive, more profitable and safer use of data throughout its entire lifecycle. Data Insights Services is arguably the most crucial part of this – and the most differentiating for Calligo as a service provider. While Calligo’s Managed Cloud Services and IT Managed Services ensure that data is made reliably available to every user, within a full framework of security and governance, Data Insights Services then allow that data to be put to best commercial use through machine learning. This allows businesses to pursue the maximum benefits in productivity and profitability.

Meanwhile, Calligo’s longstanding expertise in Data Privacy Services means that businesses have the confidence that from the point of creation and with every interaction, data is processed in full observance of data privacy requirements.

It is a focus and a combination of services that sets Calligo apart from any other managed services provider – and this acquisition accelerates that leadership of the market.

Calligo wins twice at the Digital Jersey Tech Awards

Calligo wins Digital Growth Business of the Year and CEO Julian Box is named Digital Leader of the Year

2021 is off to a stellar start for Calligo.

At the Digital Jersey Tech Awards 2020 virtual awards evening, Calligo was announced as the Digital Growth Business of the Year for its achievements throughout last year, while Julian Box was named the Digital Leader of the Year.

Calligo was named Digital Growth Business of the Year because of its growth in five key areas:

Geographic growth
In only 10 months of 2020, Calligo completed three acquisitions in Ireland, integrating them all together and with the wider global organisation to create one of the largest providers of managed services in Ireland.
UK expansion   A fourth acquisition was also completed in 2020, this time in the UK. Network Integrity Services was added to expand Calligo’s local UK presence, while also growing the skills and capabilities that can be made available to customers throughout Europe and North America.
Service additions   2020 saw the addition of Calligo’s Machine Learning as a Service to the portfolio. This is the first and only managed service to simultaneously address all six of the key barriers to businesses adopting machine learning: data quality, complexity, security, accuracy, data privacy and of course, cost.
Reputational growth   In 2020 alone, Calligo has been ranked 18th on the MSP 501, the global annual rankings of the strongest managed service providers, plus joined the Top 100 of The Growth List (the official ranking of the fastest growing businesses operating in Canada), joined the Top 100 of the Public Cloud MSPs listing and was shortlisted for three awards for our data services in the European IT & Software Excellence Awards (results in 2021).
Financial growth   All this activity has translated into strong commercial success, with Calligo able to show the judges a consistent trend of strong annual financial growth over the last three years, which is predicted to continue into 2021.

Meanwhile, the Digital Jersey judges were also impressed by Julian Box’s personal leadership of the company throughout 2020, awarding him the Digital Leader of the Year prize.

Arthur Mainja from KPMG, the category sponsors, added during the awards presentation:

“With Digital leader of the Year, we are looking for someone putting clear water between themselves and the competition. The three things we were looking for were:

  • Strategic leadership
  • Using data as an asset
  • Someone who is modernising how services are delivered

There is no longer business strategy and technology strategy – there is just strategy.

Data can be a very powerful asset. We wanted to see a leader who has managed to unlock the power of data, empowering insights for their customers’ needs, achieving operational efficiencies and managing risks effectively. We wanted the Digital Leader of the Year to have demonstrated that they have modernised how they deliver digital services to organisations.”

“I am very humbled by these awards – two in one night! We have a clear strategy of ambitious growth supported by acquisition, and to have achieved what we did in 2020 – double figure organic growth and four acquisitions – is testament to the determination and focus of every individual in the team. Not only because of the hard work that is clearly evident from what we have accomplished, but also the manner in which we did it: supporting each other across borders and through 2020’s difficulties, while keeping the customer at the front of our minds. I am of course very proud of the part I had to play in it, but I am far prouder of the efforts of the team.”

Calligo ranked among Canada’s Top 100 Solution Providers

Yesterday, during a special virtual gala, Calligo was named amongst the CDN Top 100 Solution Providers in Canada.

The annual ranking is produced by Channel Daily News (CDN), the most widely read publication for the IT solution provider community in Canada for more than thirty years, with data verified by IT business intelligence and analysis leader IDC Canada.

The rankings process required each solution provider to submit its strategy, service breakdowns, revenues, examples of customer engagements and its commentary on the challenges the service provider industry faces now and in the future. These submissions were then individually assessed and ranked by the CDN and IDC panel.

This was Calligo’s first appearance in the CDN Top 100 Solution Providers, joining the list in 71st position. But more importantly, Calligo stood out as the only IT service provider within the entire Top 100 to have integrated data privacy services into its entire portfolio, including IT managed services.

“Our position in the CDN Top 100 shows the quality and scale of our service delivery, underpinned by our ‘Customer First’ mindset. But it is our difference from everyone else on the list that is most striking and most revealing about our future prospects,”

commented Julian Box, Founder & CEO of Calligo.

“The way in which businesses seek to use their data is constantly changing, whether to innovate, grow or become more efficient. Technology’s role in this is simply to enable those ambitions – the value is in the data.

So while other service providers focus on merely supporting and securing their customers’ devices and networks, we instead aim to help our clients use their data to work smarter and innovate faster – whether through its continual access and availability, its security and data privacy adherence, or its intelligent use. It is this difference that has led to us growing and retaining such a customer base, both in Canada and globally, and that guarantees we are able to meet their needs as they change.”

 Why is this distinction important?

Data is any business’ most valuable asset. It should sit at the heart of every interaction they have and every decision they make – large or small. But while data is essential for businesses to thrive, it is often also frustratingly invisible, inaccessible or irrelevant. And fraught with risk if it is lost, mismanaged or not surrounded by the right data privacy and security protections.

Calligo understands this, and by focusing on the root of the issue – the data – rather than the technology it inhabits, we are able to help our customers better understand how data flows into, around and out of the business, and then better control it to become more productive, more profitable, more secure and more adherent to privacy obligations.

Of course, proactive maintenance of the technology environment is a vital and substantial part of this – and one that we are proud to say we excel in – but to limit our services to only this and to ignore the rest of our customers’ data needs would be to miss the point, and our customers would miss the opportunity to grow.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) service update from Calligo

Our principal concerns during this Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic are the health and wellbeing of our staff and their families, whilst maintaining our service operations to you, our customers.

Precautionary Measures

As the virus continues to spread, so we now need to take further precautionary measures to limit its impact upon our teams across our various locations. These measures include:

Introducing Remote Working

Until further notice, we have implemented a ‘working from home first’ stance in order to help minimise the impact of the virus on all staff. We are ensuring that all staff members have the equipment, connectivity, space and environment at home to deliver the service you expect.
For certain roles and functions where office presence is currently required, teams have been split to work from the office on a rota basis. We are also ensuring that hygiene and distancing protocols are observed, and are working with our landlords to introduce more frequent and extensive cleaning.
We are fully prepared so that as circumstances and guidance change, we can immediately move to have all staff work remotely from their own home until such time as we deem it safe to fully return to their office

Ceasing Travel and Off-site Events

With immediate effect we are ceasing all inter-office travel until further notice. We are also cancelling all off-site training and events, so as to limit staff exposure to populous places, such as travel hubs and conference centres.

Limiting Client Site Visits

To reduce the risk to you, our customers, and our own staff, we are adopting a ‘remote first’ approach for all on-premise support and all client consultancy service meetings until further notice. This includes the suspension of Network Admin monthly on-site visits.

What this means for your service

The aim of these measures is to help ensure that there is not a drop in the level of service provided to you. However there will be slight adjustments to how the services are delivered, as we look to limit the in-person contact to only what is absolutely essential.

All of our teams can operate remotely and securely. Our remote working capabilities are tested regularly throughout the year to validate our Business Continuity Plan and we are prepared for our entire workforce to work remotely for an extended period.

The services and data centres operated by Calligo are redundant and built on a multiple site configuration, with flexibility to scale should there be an increased demand for resources.

Based on current information, we expect the Coronavirus pandemic will last for several months. It is therefore vital that we are prepared for action that will last for an extended period.

We will continue to actively monitor the situation and local government advisories and will provide further updates as the position changes. It is our intention to return to normal working practices as soon as it is safe to do so.

Should you have any questions on the above, please reach out to your usual Calligo contact.

Calligo is a “Tech Growth Business of the Year” finalist

Calligo is a “Tech Growth Business of the Year” finalist at the National Technology Awards

Yesterday, the shortlist for the National Technology Awards was announced, and included Calligo in the “Tech Growth Business of the Year” category.

The National Technology Awards are the most comprehensive celebration of technology, celebrating the pioneers of the industry. The judges were looking for companies that are in full growth mode, and are expanding by virtue of excellent service, products and insight.

Calligo was made a finalist primarily on account of its geographical, financial and technical growth over the last years. But Calligo was also shortlisted because of its vision in basing a portfolio of managed data services around a central concept of data privacy, and the quality of the subsequent delivery of each of those services.

“The National Technology Awards are probably one of the broadest in scope of all technology awards. Spanning from B2B to B2C, and across all industries, the sheer range of organization that the judges will have considered for this category is so much greater than for any other award scheme, which makes being a Tech Growth Business of the Year finalist all the more special. This nomination is testament to the great work the team has put in over the last few years to ensure that our growth plans have been met and that we do not lose sight of our customers’ needs in the process.”

Julian Box, Founder and CEO of Calligo.

This shortlisting follows last week’s triple shortlisting in the European IT & Software Excellence Awards, and last year’s Global MSP of the Year win.
